Nicola Maria Roberts (born 5 October 1985) is an English singer, songwriter, actress, and entrepreneur……well sort of! Roberts rose to fame in 2002 after auditioning for the ITV reality television programme Popstars: The Rivals and winning a place in the girl group Girls Aloud. The group was one of the few UK reality television acts to achieve continued success, amassing a joint fortune of £25 million by May 2009.

Featured in this months Vogue is Damir Doma - a fashion designer based in Paris. With his collection he is now one of the most anticipated menswear designer on the official schedule of the Paris Fashion Week. According to the Berlin based high-fashion Magazin Achtung, Damir Doma is widely considered as the most important German fashion designer of his generation. Damir Doma was born in Croatia but grew up in southern Germany near the lake Chiemsee where his mother has a clothing atelier. He calls his mother an influent person in his own development.

Julianne Moore is on the cover of this weeks YOU Magazine. When it comes to clothes, the actor Dominic Cooper is best known for not wearing many. As Sky in Mamma Mia!, he spent 108 minutes capering about in shorts, while in The Duchess he spent more time rolling around bare-chested with Keira Knightley than in his breeches. So it’s a surprise to discover that in real life he’s quite a fan of fashion.

He has a sharp eye for a trend. "You just notice what looks good and what’s acceptable again,” he says. "Like wearing really tight skinny jeans. Seven or eight years ago, I wouldn’t even have contemplated them, but for some reason it’s OK to wear them now. If you’re uncomfortable, it’s completely pointless. You have to feel like yourself.”

He likes 60s fashion, and cites the writer Alan Bennett as someone whose style he admires. Wearing his own clothes for the shoot for Weekend, he describes his look as "casual with varying degrees of smartness”, favouring Prps jeans, Paul Smith shirts and jumpers, and scruffy army boots. He claims not to worry about what he’s wearing when he’s papped, but admits to becoming mildly more stylish since he started acting. "I had no style before and now I have a little.”

A right arm pace bowler, Anderson made his international debut at the age of just 20. On England’s 2002/03 tour of Australia, Anderson was drafted into the squad from the England A team due to an injury crisis. Tank:’Damir Doma’s Silent mens Spring Summer ‘11 line of unfussy clean-lined modern classics in paired down style and subtle shades’

I couldn’t have put it better myself - Tank magazine, first published in September 1998, is produced by the independent publishing company Tank Publications Ltd., who also publish "O:Magazine” by Tank, the luxury fashion supplement for The Observer in the UK.

I’m sure you already know Tank magazine is published four times a year and distributed internationally to a large, worldwide audience. In September 2009, Tank Publications Ltd. launched Because magazine, an online fashion magazine featuring fashion, culture, accessories and beauty.

Marie Claire Denim section this month looks at the new trend of darker, cleaner more polished denim drifting away the distressed and bleeched look with the emphasis on more luxe fabrics and textures. The boyfriend cut is basically slimmed down this season to form what is being called the ‘baby boot’ - basically a narrow bottomed version of the boot cut.

The jeans featured by Prps are a snake skin womens jean that have been really popular since their launch and worn by a whole host of celebrities. They are a skinny fitting and look amazing on.

Dashingly handsome, and certainly not the shy retiring type, ladies man Dominic Cooper has been working his magic on the dancefloor……we heard his moves were ok but the Prps jeans he was wearing made him look a lot better than he actually was. The Mamma Mia actor was spotted busting his moves with Rosamund Pike and Jamie Winstone and the London after party of the girls new Brit Flick ‘Made in Dagenham’.

Dominic is wearing the Selvedge Limited Edition Rinse Barracuda- they’re looking nicely worn in as he’s had them for a while.

Renner has made a career out of playing charismatic anti-heroes. He has portrayed an eighteenth-century vampire, a gun-toting alcoholic, and a notorious serial killer, among other film roles. In addition to having done extensive theater work, Renner has starred in several major independent films, including the 2009 Iraq war thriller The Hurt Locker which earned him an Academy Award nomination for Best Actor…..nice work.

The Telegraph run an interesting article on Japanese made denim this week of which Prps is the undisputed leader. It’s no secret that Prps denim is spun on vintage Levi’s shuttle looms but it’s the brands signature finishes and washes that have kept it head and shoulders above the rest.

Prps Heirloom will combine the quality and attention to detail we are used to from Prps but at a more affordable price. GQ Magazine ‘Shops’ Supplement features an article on Denim jackets this month. Love the cover of this months Liberty Magazine. Liberty’s Denim area now hosts eight of the worlds greatest denim brands and, dare we say it, Prps is the leading brand in the area. From tiny Japanese mills to insider favourite ateliers to legendary names in American denim history Liberty seem to have the full of desirable jeans covered.

Inside the magazine a chap called Terry is head to toe in Prps’s new season collection - we are particularly fond of the patterned jacket, that same fabric is featured on some of the new season jeans pockets and details…nice.

Arguably the loudest shirt Prps have ever made is featured in this months Clash Magazine. The Multi coloured shirt worn by one of the members of the band ‘The Ganglians’ - Sacramento’s Ganglians want an island somewhere where they can soak in the sun and prowl the canopy by night. It’s not often that they do get out, but they can get down for that. Recording sometimes as one, sometimes as four it’s a real game to figure out where the entity comes from and where it’s going. Prps’s designer Donwan Harrell is featured in this months PIG magazine which looks at the man behind behind Prps and people behind the denim washes that nobody seems to be able to copy. In the 84th edition of PIG magazine (you’ll need to speak Italian to read it) an insightful interview with Donwan gives us a small glimpse into the man behind the brand.

Donwan Harrell is a founder of the New York-based urban clothing company, Akademiks. He is also one of the former top 10 designers at Nike. Under Akademiks, Harrell the founder and Creative Director of PRPS jeans, a line of "luxury” denim. Harrell’s career in fashion took off when he was a sopho- more at Virginia Commonwealth University. He entered the International Air France Student Fashion Designer Competition and won the top prize of studying at the Chambre Syndicale in France for the next two years.

"Winning the competition was the most memorable expe- rience of my college career,” he says. "It prepared me not only as a fashion designer but also as a businessman.”

Prps is featured in this months FHM magazine being worn by Twilight star Peter Facinelli. Facinelli played Carlisle Cullen in the film adaptation of Twilight, based on the book by Stephenie Meyer. Facinelli reprised his role in the sequels of the film, The Twilight Saga: New Moon, and The Twilight Saga: Eclipse. FHM Magazine features the Prps White Car Scribbler Cherub T Shirt in this months issue. This one of 6 Prps T shirts that we are currently selling at Indigofera all are beautifully designed and the materials/construction as always are of the highest quality.

The logo depicts a cherub, bent over leaning on one crutch displaying the phrase ‘Bruised Never Broken’ on it - perfectly describing the fact each garment goes through a very rigorous process, but never looses it’s tough quality and durability. The designer Donwan Harrel, a denim addict and aficionado, insisted on using the finest organic cotton from Zimbabwe, then shipping it to Japan for them to be hand finished at the family-run mill known for making ‘savagely’ good denim.

Attitude Magazine names Prps, in it’s Denim Dilemma section, as one of the top denim brands. Donwam Harell is Prps’s creator - with his business thriving, Harrell is often asked for guidance from up-and-coming designers. His advice is simple: "Learn how to use the com- puter. Learn Illustrator and Photoshop,” he says. "Learn about fabrications and pay attention in math class.” But of course it takes more than that to succeed. "If you have a dream or desire, keep working at it,” he says……sounds simple!

King Krash jeans were founded by Donwan Harrell, the man behind PRPS jeans. King Krash takes its inspiration from the illegal street racing days of 1970’s Manhattan – an era of disco, fast women and even faster cars, where gang culture was rampant and the clothes you wore were as much a part of the scene as the racing itself.

This months Vogue includes an article on one of our favourite London stores - Start. Co-owned by Philip Start and ex-The Fall giutarist Brix Smith-Start, Start comprises three adjacent boutiques in Shoreditch - Womenswear, menswear and made-to-measure tailoring salon, in addition to the online boutique.

The PRPS brand motto is "Bruised, never broken”, the jeans are manufactured in Japan using the the traditional American loom machines used to make the durable, hardwearing denim produced by company’s such as Levi’s until these looms were deemed old technology and many say unwisely sold off to Japanese manufacturers. Modern looms are more efficient in the amount of material used, however, the older, classic looms produce a stronger edge to the fabric, which result in increased prices in denim when older looms are used. Today Japanese denim is considered high quality, premium denim. The cotton itself that is used to create the denim is organically grown in Africa – initially in Zimbabwe and more recently other sources have been found in other eastern and southern areas of the continent. ‘They discovered German punk from the teen magazine Bravo; they learner about the hippie movement from an Asian film director; and they think revolting against mainstream is silly. PRPS was founded in 2003 by former Nike designer Donwan Harrell. Based out of New York, the company is renowned for its quality, fits and washes, not to mention its high-high prices. These jeans are among the best in the world…

Donwan - "For jeans, my inspiration is going to the track on Friday. You’ll see jeans with an anti-free spill, or an oil spill. In America, guys typically wear the same jean, so you see the progression of the jean as they’ve aged. They don’t realize they’re supplying me with inspiration, they just see me taking photos. For spring/summer 2010, I looked at the movie Christine [1983, based on the Stephen King novel about a possessed Plymouth Fury]. I love the guy who owns the garage, with his messed-up jeans and tie.”

FHM Collection’s article for 184 sharp looks for Spring Summer features Prps and how David Beckham has sparked Prps fever in LA -

"The men in LA are going mad for Prps jeans. I know David Beckham’s stylist, and he styles a lot of the rappers like Kanye and P Diddy. They all ask him what David’s wearing. And it’s Prps. They’re pretty baggy, quite industrial. No namby pamby men’s detailing. They’re loose, but not worn so low you can see the boxers. They cost a bit more, but you wear jeans more than anything. So spending a bit more money on a pair is usually worthwhile when you boil it down to how many times you wear them. "

GQ magazine features 5 pages of one of are favourite Prps jeans. The Classic Vintage Barracuda is a Prps classic and has been carried over seasons more times than we can remember. Designer Donwan Harrell is something of a denim legend who recently said -

"As a denim collector and wearer, I wanted to create a company which didn’t exist in the market at the time. Denim with an authentic vintage look and feel of someone who was at the race track or a rally. The washes that were available in the market did not look very authentic with the heavy whiskers and fading.”…….me thinks he has sucseeded?

Next season is looking to be a good one for PRPS. Men are warming to the idea of washed denim after years of raw dominance. And with seasons of pre-washed goodness behind them, PRPS is primed to take the mantle as the go-to brand for men who want someone else to break in their denim for them. Aside from that, they’ve also made some solid chinos – which are really winter weight trousers – lightweight leather jackets and some fetching shirts.

"While everyone knows about PRPS’ denim by now, their outerwear is strengthening season on season. On the coat side, there’s denim work jackets, shearling lined coats alongside the usual cropped denim jackets. The main influences were aztec and 50’s western, which came up in their new vintage denim, the LTD 20. London’s fashion crowd gathered at Start Boutique to celebrate the launch of PRPS HEARTS START– an limited edition collaboration between the brand and the store.

Amongst the 300 guests attending, were names including Pam Hogg, Sadie Frost, Rick Edwards, Pearl Lowe, Henry Conway, Henry Holland, Ben Grimes, Morwenna Lytton-Cobbold, Jade Parfitt, Laura Whitmore, Amy Molyneaux and Percy Parker (PPQ)

On Thursday 3rd September 2009 Start Boutique in Shoreditch celebrated the launch of an exclusive collaboration between Brix Smith Start and legendary New York denim brand Prps. The limited edition styles – a pair of Japanese denim boyfriend jeans and an Italian leather cropped biker jacket – are both adorned with oxidised studs and hearts and will be available in-store and online from early September.

If you have a pair of PRPS or are going to purchase some you will be able to tell from the amount of detail in them, how much work and care have gone into each pair to ensure quality denim that isn’t comparable to other brands of jeans. PRPS should be leading this trend as they have been producing distressed jeans for the last three years.
